Taekwondo - New rules set for Olympic 2012

Taekwondo made it's first appearance at the Summer Olympic Games as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul when Korea was the host country. It later became a full medal sport at the 2000 summer Olympics in Sydney Australia and has been a sport in the Olympics since then. China demonstrated their vast number of Taichi practitioners during the opening ceremony, I wonder if we will expect to see some sort of Taichi competition in the Olympic one day?

According to some sources, Taekwondo is on the verge of being eliminated from the official Olympic Games, due to lack of popularity. (I personally disagree coz TKD community is larger than ever) but it raised concern to the WTF (World Taekwondo Federation)

What a low blow that was

Concerned sources & rumors states the reason being the lack of fairness in judging during the match. Often judges are criticized as vague and confusing. Olympics Taekwondo match are judged by one referee and 4 judges.....sitting pretty far from the action, BUT with the help of 2 cameras. Points & penalties are given when 2 judges recognize them. However due to flashy and fast movement & angles can cause ambiguous judgement.

So the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) addresses the issue with a total of five cameras around the court!

The community have growing concerns that TDK has lost its dynamic appeal and the games are not fun to watch....(really?) I personally find it to be the flashiest game to watch on TV, next to lightweight boxing and Judo. So for London games of 2012, the size of the court will be reduced to 8x8 meters.
The rules also been changed where a super flashy kicks & advanced attack moves will be awarded up to 4 points, making the sport more exciting to watch. That sounds like an excellent idea to me! this will change the fighters game and strategy completely. We might even see unexpected new stars coz now it allows for new moves we often don't see in the games.

Better yet, we might even get to see some rare knockouts in the London Olympic games this year!

Now here's a thought. Do you think London will feature Baritsu/Bartitsu in their opening ceremony? How cool would can it be to see a sport where the sports attire is to wear victorian attire with a top hat and fake mustaches? I sure wish to see that!

Epic Weapons found in flight security 2011 Edition

Courtesy of TSA Blogs and Gizmodo for bringing to my attention of such things to consider NOT to bring when flying. Or at the very least be aware of what SOME people might be bringing in in their carry-ons.....

Look out frequent flyers the person sitting next to you might be packing some dangerous knife somewhere!

Blades from a shoe is quite typical and common that some people still believe they can walk through custom thinking they are like some James Bond Villain and not get stopped.

Some people are actually smart to hide their mini knife to pretend as a belt buckle. Explains why in-flights nowadays they ask people take off their belts for scanning. Now I understand.

Typical hidden weapon thats been going on for centuries

The typical blade in a walking stick found in many centuries and many cultures; used as an assassination weapon or for self defense purposes. Nowadays to walk around with one is illegal however back in the Victorian days Baritsu practitioners tend to wield one of these.

Is this ethical? I can imagine how convenient it can be when u need to cut off a loose thread on your corporate suit. Or you can use it to slice off an unsuspecting robber and get in court for that - or the fact you have something sharp & pointy pointing at your crotch the entire time....

A phone may stun flight communications but this can stun a human being...

The phone above is actually a stun-gun that looks like a cellphone. Most probably custom built for self defense reasons on unsuspecting robbers or something more sinister like shutting up some annoying passengers mid-flight.

Judging by the picture it may looked like a collectors item that may come with the book, however anything that looks like a weapon will definitely get stopped by the flight security. Yea...so you can't travel with your Naruto Kunai (replica throwing knife) either kids...

You know the flight securities have X-rays that sees through almost anything. So concealing potential weapons in a ceramic vase, is not helping either. By the way, the Casually Pepper Spray Cop & the Wallmart Incident isn't helping the situation either.

The Customs are on high alert people! so don't bring anymore dangerous items - you shouldn't be flying with those unless you have some creative ideas to get caught on purpose and let me post more of your creative (but stupid) endeavors online!

Wing Chung Dummy Bear Found! (Somewhere in Amsterdam Tourist Centre)

Hi all, its been sometime since i last blogged simply because i was away overseas for some form of Martial Meditation, (holiday abroad round UK & Europe). During my quest for enlightenment I happen to see tons of posters and adds for the new Sherlock Holmes movie. Which also caught my eyes on a modern day rendition of the BBC Sherlock TV Series. It looked great but i wonder if this new Holmes knows Baritsu? or maybe Aikido? or maybe even modern day rendition of Baritsu...MMA??

Season 1 apparently recently ended so hopefully we can catch a glimpse of Holmes abs in the 2nd Season...am i right lady warriors? ^_*

On the contrary Watson, i tend to notice there are tons of Sherlock Holmes related TV shows & Video Games as of late...

But that was not the point, i strayed off to unrelated realm a moment there.
I belief there is a saying somewhere along these lines..."You do martial arts, martial arts will always be around you" or somewhere along those line. On my trip around Amsterdam I happen to come across Wing Chung Dummy Bear in one of the tourist information Centre.

Look at the size of that in comparison to my size!

Sherlock Holmes - Detective, Mix Martial Artist or Wing Chun Practitioner???

Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadow is premiering soon and thought I share an interesting thought to those who may not be aware. Throughout our knowledge before the movie, we always known Sherlock Holmes to be the calm collected/calculative detective which traditionally are not prone violence. However only the hardcore of fans only caught a tiny glimpse of information where Sherlock Holmes has the ability to perform martial arts at times of danger.

Many whose seen the movie and saw the above scene have mixed reactions, reactions like.....
"There's so much violence.This isn't Sherlock Holmes! He doesn't know how to fight!"
"Yowsa! this is a scene from that movie Fight Club!"
"Eeeek! Robert D. Shirtless!"

for the hardcore fans would go...
"Why would they make Sherlock Holmes into an action adventure film? It's should be a detective film!"
"OMG thats Bartitsu! (or Baritsu) the whatcha ma callit martial arts in the scene where Holmes falls to his death at the waterfall with his arch nemesis in Sherlock Holmes book, volume etc etc etc....."

The aforementioned Baritsu is a long lost martial art style developed by an englishmen name E.W. Barton Wright. whom in historical profile travelled learned various styles of Asian Martial arts and brought back to England during the Victorian period. He uses various martial arts style and developed his very own style to accommodate the English Men/Women for self defense, and probably 'political' reasons to make it as English & graceful as possible.

Bartitsu (or Baritsu) may very well be the very first Mix Martial Arts Pioneer before the legendary Bruce Lee made his world renown Jeet Kune Do.

and for the Martial Arts practitioners they go like....
"...........................that looked ALOT like Wing Chun...doesnt it?"

Well fellow Martial Artist & Enthusiast...you are correct.

Yes everyone, you have seen it and you can't un-see this. Everytime you look at any Hollywood movie that might involve close proximity fist fights you will think of Robert Downey Jr....doing Wing Chun. I wonder if there is any bears in this new Sherlock Holmes movies?
