Can a total light show movie turn to 3D redeem to its former glory?
I admit, I was one of those little geeky kid who went and saw this film and loved it, prior to have watched "A new Hope", "Empire Strikes Back" & "Return of the Jedi". My eyes were wide open when i first saw the trailer of the choreograph fight scenes, each time they pull out their colorful light saber i went into a hypnotic trance. After watching i felt there was something missing...this lingering feeling that bugs me...not in a good way.
Then comes the trailer for the 2nd movie came on and I was like OMG purple lightsaber M F*ker! Watched it and was like OMG dual wielding lightsaber! coming out feeling somewhat jaded. Then watched "Revenge of the Sith" where everyone with a lightsaber dies...(almost everyone), and i felt a sense of contempt. I felt liberated!!
It's the lightsabers!
I realized to me, (story, visual effects & other criticism aside) Light Saber is what made Star Wars cool! and it also what made Star Wars sucked! It's an emotional vehicle for the entire franchise. Look at all the video games and its all about creating your lightsaber and slaughter anything in your path. I don't intend to go in deep about what makes a movie good or bad, all I'm saying and I'm sure most martial artist & geek nerds would agree that we ALL want one.
90% of the internet is flooded with videos/fan films referencing star wars always have a lightsaber scene. Some good, some bad, some ended up as memes.
Making the art of wielding a lightsaber one of the most practiced Fictional Martial Arts in the world!
Just like the many pioneers in martial arts, we tend to see videos where the public outperforms the original.
So the question is, will the 3D'mafication make the ligthsaber duel any better? In my book, after watching the Video below....its very unlikely.
You just saw the video above....you will not un-see it ever again! enjoy :D!

Russian Martial Arts seems to derive its roots from it's Soviet Military Hand to Hand Combat
To follow up my previous knowledge about Russian Martial Arts, I've done a little bit of research to find out what are the martial arts scenes from Russia. Aside from the mainstream Olympics of wrestling & boxing, Martial Arts in Russia are gaining more and more popularity and exposure thanks to the internet.
From what I gather mostly in popular culture and references from the internet there are 3 main styles that keeps coming up every time I google "Russian Martial Arts" This probably explains how I begin to see more unique readers from Russia as well.
Systema (the system)
Systema are trained in hand to hand combat, grappling, knife fighting and fire arms training. Training involves drills and sparring although without the set kata like traditional martial arts. It's an art focuses mainly on controlling the six body levers (elbows, neck, knees, waist, ankles & shoulders) through pressure point application, striking & weapons applications. Systema is often advertised and mainstream as a martial art trained by their special forces, the Russian Spetsnaz. Check out the rare Video below.
With the booming threat of street safety, self protection & self defense, Systema have been incorporated to be trained by normal civilian for Self Defense purposes. And the video below are examples of Systema being implemented to be trained to civilians safety.
Some notable names of Systema Masters responsible for its global exposure includes Mikhail Ryabko & Vladamier Vasiliev. (apologize if i got the spelling wrong) As I noticed during my research i found that their concepts for punching, kicking and stance seems different than conventional martial arts. Traditionally the fundamental of power comes from the hip motion and its present in Systema as well, however their anatomy of punching are unfamiliar territory for a traditionalist like myself. As explained in videos below
Mikhael Ryabko
Vladimir Vasiliev
Notice how the people taking the impact of the punch moves when getting hit. From the looks of it apparently a way to absorb the impact or deflect the force away from the body. It's very unique and unfamiliar...which also excites me :D
Another thing that I come across in my research are the criticism towards the demonstrations of Systema. There are those critics out there believe some of their concept shows in the videos are fraud and some even calls it as "Soviet Propaganda".
Courtesy of Martial Arts Haters & non-believers who contributed their point of view of Systema below
I have much respect for all forms of Martial Arts, I'm not here to provoke heated discussions with the internet people wether the video above is real or not, an open-minded Martial Artist are mature enough not to be phased by criticism of those who barks at cats. My intention is to merely put up observations from my research and for people to expand their knowledge in the aspect of Martial Arts.
Criticism are everywhere and in every Martial Art. It is up to the Martial Artist to form a constructive opinion of the criticism and take inner peace in their decisions.
Coming up on more comprehensive study of other Russian Martial Arts
(Sambo & Voin system)

I've always been fascinated by Aikido, the concept of non-punching & kicking to topple down an a larger opponent using their energy against them is very elegant similar to Taichi. Although not flashy it have a similar sense of grace behind each techniques and almost seemed invisible to untrained eyes.
The Video above summarized it all. I was exposed of Aikido training through a seminar and the training is just as different than conventional, punching & kicking. The seminar thought me the grace & effectiveness behind the techniques and how it requires very little physical strain for smaller/weaker people.
Since it's a non-aggresive Martial Arts, makes Aikido a purely self defense art. Everyone can be trained to be more mentally self aware and be mindful of their surroundings, and to avoid possible dangers. Should a confrontation is unavoidable trainees have the abilities to protect themselves by diffusing the aggressor.
A self protection martial arts seemed perfect for young children & women to start for its non-aggresive nature. However Aikido is no pushover for it can still be applied for aggressive application. Below is a rare video seen Aikido being applied in an aggressive manner.
Whether aggressive or passive martial art, it is undoubtedly one of the fast growing Martial Arts. Notable celebrity practitioners are Steven Seagal.

It's finally out! After watching tons and tons of trailers and reading reviews about the game it seems that Capcom have outdone themselves in delivering yet another impressive fighting game for us all!
I dont even need to second guess myself that this fighting game will be the best yet!
For those who don't know Street Fighter X Tekken is as obvious as it gets. Putting 2 of the best fighting video game in the industry against each other. Complimenting each other's strengths and created probably one of the greater master piece fighter available!
The game just barely came out and there is already an impressive well made Fan Made Martial Art short Film out of it! Courtesy of youtube & the creators Thousand Pounds.
Not convince? check out the gameplay & features in the official trailer below. Courtesy of Capcom
Gota love the epic rock song to compliment the Martial Arts sound effects :D

Coming back from New Zealand few weeks ago made a strong impression of me how the strength and spirit of the Maori Warriors still resonates in my mind. There are few countries that I have been maintain and preserve their ancestral cultures and ways even in modern times. Unfortunately my journey didn't take me to the Northern Island of NZ which from what I was told is where the Maori descendants & culture are mostly concentrated.
However as I mentioned even though I wasnt fully there to fully experiencing the ancient culture at least I brought some meaningful souvenirs back home with me.
1) The "Ta Moko"
Maori Markings (courtesy of Wikipedia)
Contemporary days people are taking inspiration from the Maori face markings and is often used as templates for many line based designs. During ancient times its used as a form of intimidation and some say the designs are embedded with spirits to give strength to the warriors. Due to its symbolism of strength, power and honor, modern day warriors and athletes tends to have these markings tattooed on them. (top of my head is the ROCK from WWE).
In case you all wonder if i tattoo myself with one .... sorry to disappoint, im too sensitive on my skin. so instad i buy T-shirts with those markings on it for me to wear when I train. Makes me feel like an honorable warrior! gaaarr!
A short range weapon used for clubbing and bashing. Its blunt surfaces and small size makes it easier to carry around. The weapon is often made by hard material such as hardwood and sometimes whale bones but it is most prized for it being made by Jade, (Hard valuable stone, comes with various colors) My sources may be incorrect but for high-ranking chieftains often holds the jade Mere as a symbol of status and wisdom.
Unfortunately it is a weapon is a weapon so I decided not to risk going through custom with it. (very unfortunate, since I would love to collect one at home)
3) The Hakka
The Hakka is a ritualistic dance/War-cry for warriors to prepare themselves mentally and physically to go into combat. It is also used as a war-cry to intimidate their foes by forming in groups doing a ritualistic formation dance intimidating their foes with big bulging eyes, wide mouth and long tongue telling them "I'm going to eat you!"
The War Cry Hakka is so affective it is even practiced today by the Local Rugby Team, All Blacks, from what I was told the first time the team performed the Hakka before the match to opposing team, it scared the living day light out of them and the All Blacks won the Championship. Here's an excerpt below...
After watching that video it gave an empowering feeling within me and so why the Hakka by far is one of the things that resonates me the most of my trip to New Zealand.
Believe it or not? I actually used the Hakka before i do one of the most craziest things ever in my entire life....What was it you ask? Just remember not to look down.....
No thats not me...
One day shall upload my own photo of that jump in the near future :D
