Yet another Tribute of Street Fighter Fans.
In celebration of Street Fighter's 25th Anniversary, BBQ for Honor promises continue to bring fellow readers back to its original intention of posting more information about anything in terms to Martial Arts. (in addition to memes of Fighting Video Games). In the meantime, why not refresh yourself with information about other martial arts, or learn about civilian weapons such as the Kubotan for self defense purposes? Or even look at people misuse these self defense weapons? Learn that to be a Master of "Something" is also considered as Kung Fu?

More variety of post to come...

Happy Chinese New Year 2012 - Year of the Dragon

Happy Chinese New Year, Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Gong Xi Fa Cai or Gong Hei Fatt Choi for different dialects in the Chinese Language. Everyone have a Happy Chinese New Year, may the year of the Dragon protect us and brings us all a prosperous year.

Did you know?

Meaning Behind Jackie Chan & Bruce Lee's Chinese Names

As a tradition, Chinese Kung Fu stars have their own stage names. It's the same case for both Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. People seldom remember their real names since the stage names are so popular.

Stage Name for Jackie Chan was Cheng Long, literally translated as"Become the Dragon".

Bruce Lee's stage name was Xiao Long, meaning "Little Dragon". Somehow similar?

The Dragon - Mystical creature in Chinese folklore & Mythology, the Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers, particularly control over water, rainfall, hurricane, and floods. The dragon is a symbol of power, strength, and good luck.

So typically you will see Chinese Family plans to give birth on the year of the dragon..........an army of babies...

I am the Warrior of the dragon!
Happy Chinese New Year 2012 everyone!

Thousand Pounds - Street Fighter 25th Birthday

What is the definition of a dislocated jaw? The picture above.

Keeping up with the spirit of Street Fighter 25th Birthday, here's a group of stuntman/Martial Artist doing their own rendition of Ultra Combos from courtesy of Street Fighter 4. We've all seen how martial art fight scenes in movies have evolved throughout the years now even Video Games is taking up a notch into making the illusion of hitting hard to REALLY hurts.

Courtesy of the group from "Thousand Pounds"

I'm telling you guys, video games makes action sequences so much more awesome simply by manipulating the traditional camera angles into hyper realism camera angles to achieve the greatest effect. Aside from Japanese film maker Ryuhei Kitamura, I have yet to see Hollywood attempt to mimic the camera angles of a video game to achieve for maximum impact.

I wonder why Capcom have yet to create a drunken master character in their fighting games
As Jackie Chan would (probably) say, "Comedy is all about timing & pauses, Martial Arts comedy is all about high impact timing and fancy pauses" not to mention the help of camera angles and exaggerated sound design.

Happy Birthday Street Fighter!

Capcom Celebrates 25 Years of Street Fighter

A very good day to every Martial Artist and Street Fighter Fans alike. News from publishing company Capcom stating on the August 30th will be Street Fighter 25th Anniversary. Ryu took his first steps towards becoming the World's greatest Martial Artists/ Fighter 25 years ago and Capcom have some "big plans" for 2012 coming up to the August 30th.

What will be the big plans for 2012 I wonder?
A total remake of the original Street Fighter?
Ryu finally turning Evil for good?
or a complete bundle of all the Original Street Fighter series in HD/3D?
(My bet is on the latter)

For commemoration lets pay tribute to Ryu's 25 years of influence in Fighting Video Games.

Taichi Quan - Epic Martial Arts

Taichi Quan - "Some ancient slow Oriental dance that the Chinese people do every morning"

We've all seen them, in every corner of the world that may or may not have Chinatowns we see millions of people of all ages and all races doing Taichi. Back in the old days it is often mistaken by the western eyes to be some ancient dance people do to kill time.

Today we all known it to to be an exercise beneficial for the Mental & Physical whilst Martial Artist knows it to be a Martial Art based on the Concept of Ying & Yang. (i wont go deep into that now) It's a Martial Arts where many practice for various reasons; some to be health benefits whilst some to be physically fit whilst some are in it for the company & community and some are for the self defense & kicking arsee..

Often underestimated by other martial arts practitioners to see it being a slow dance, despite its slow dance-like movements Taichi holds various techniques and footings to create its hidden powers. As demonstrated by the video below in actual self-defense exercise we can witness how the techniques are being used.

Nowadays with the magic of the media & internet we get to see and study more the marvel of what Taichi Quan can do in the forms of Movies, Video Games instructional videos and often rare "fighting application" of Taichi we can now understand more of why Taichi is being practiced by millions all over the world by all ages and race.

Now we even get to see proper speed fights & application in a proper match using only Taichi Quan techniques, courtesy of youtube for finding this video.

As for the question wether Taichi Quan are applicable to the more hardcore Mix Martial Arts, its hard to say for we have yet to see one who uses them yet. And as for the haters who already disregard this Martial art to be ineffective they will continue to hate.

and all i can say is....

Epic Weapons found in flight security 2011 Edition

Courtesy of TSA Blogs and Gizmodo for bringing to my attention of such things to consider NOT to bring when flying. Or at the very least be aware of what SOME people might be bringing in in their carry-ons.....
Look out frequent flyers the person sitting next to you might be packing some dangerous knife somewhere!

Blades from a shoe is quite typical and common that some people still believe they can walk through custom thinking they are like some James Bond Villain and not get stopped.

A foldable knife concealing in a belt buckle
Some people are actually smart to hide their mini knife to pretend as a belt buckle. Explains why in-flights nowadays they ask people take off their belts for scanning. Now I understand.

Typical hidden weapon thats been going on for centuries
The typical blade in a walking stick found in many centuries and many cultures; used as an assassination weapon or for self defense purposes. Nowadays to walk around with one is illegal however back in the Victorian days Baritsu practitioners tend to wield one of these.

Custom made wallet with a hidden blade attachment
Is this ethical? I can imagine how convenient it can be when u need to cut off a loose thread on your corporate suit. Or you can use it to slice off an unsuspecting robber and get in court for that - or the fact you have something sharp & pointy pointing at your crotch the entire time....

A phone may stun flight communications but this can stun a human being...
The phone above is actually a stun-gun that looks like a cellphone. Most probably custom built for self defense reasons on unsuspecting robbers or something more sinister like shutting up some annoying passengers mid-flight.
Plastic/Ceramic made ninja throwing knifes
Judging by the picture it may looked like a collectors item that may come with the book, however anything that looks like a weapon will definitely get stopped by the flight security. Yea...so you can't travel with your Naruto Kunai (replica throwing knife) either kids...

Pepper Spray & Knifes trying to conceal in a vase
You know the flight securities have X-rays that sees through almost anything. So concealing potential weapons in a ceramic vase, is not helping either. By the way, the Casually Pepper Spray Cop & the Wallmart Incident isn't helping the situation either.

The Customs are on high alert people! so don't bring anymore dangerous items - you shouldn't be flying with those unless you have some creative ideas to get caught on purpose and let me post more of your creative (but stupid) endeavors online!

Wing Chung Dummy Bear Found! (Somewhere in Amsterdam Tourist Centre)

Hi all, its been sometime since i last blogged simply because i was away overseas for some form of Martial Meditation, (holiday abroad round UK & Europe). During my quest for enlightenment I happen to see tons of posters and adds for the new Sherlock Holmes movie. Which also caught my eyes on a modern day rendition of the BBC Sherlock TV Series. It looked great but i wonder if this new Holmes knows Baritsu? or maybe Aikido? or maybe even modern day rendition of Baritsu...MMA??

Season 1 apparently recently ended so hopefully we can catch a glimpse of Holmes abs in the 2nd Season...am i right lady warriors? ^_*

On the contrary Watson, i tend to notice there are tons of Sherlock Holmes related TV shows & Video Games as of late...
But that was not the point, i strayed off to unrelated realm a moment there.
I belief there is a saying somewhere along these lines..."You do martial arts, martial arts will always be around you" or somewhere along those line. On my trip around Amsterdam I happen to come across Wing Chung Dummy Bear in one of the tourist information Centre.

Look at the size of that in comparison to my size!
Those who are new and doesn't know what is a Wing Chun Bear should look at my previous blogs, it has all the necessary information and pictures needed to understand what is a Wing Chun Bear
